Leadership Academy opening session to feature Congressional leaders describing how SGR reform finally passed

For nearly two decades, physicians have had to work with the threat of massive cuts to Medicare hanging over their head from the sustainable growth rate (SGR). Somehow, during the most virulent Congressional partisanship in our history, a solution was reached and overwhelmingly passed both houses in April.

The Western Health Care Leadership Academy is pleased to confirm that House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy will be joining the Leadership Academy faculty, along with Charlotte Ivancic, Policy Advisor for the Office of Speaker John Boehner, and Wendell Primus, Senior Policy Advisory for the Office of Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, to conduct a panel discussion on trials and tribulations of finally accomplishing Medicare reform.

During this session, you will get an exclusive peak behind the curtain on how this crucial issue was finally resolved, hearing from leadership of both parties. Will this be a roadmap to solving other critical issues facing our nation or is this a one-time resolution to an annoyingly persistent problem? Are other health care solutions on the way?

The 18th Annual Western Health Care Leadership Academy continues its mission of providing information and tools needed to succeed in today’s rapidly changing health care environment. Attendees will hear from the experts and leaders of change. The conference will examine the most significant challenges facing health care today and present proven models and innovative approaches to transform your organization’s care delivery and business practices.

Also, this year, attendees will have the opportunity to meet and interact with the program’s keynote speaker —New York Times bestselling author Malcolm Gladwell —as well as special guest, Pulitzer Prize-winning science writer Siddhartha Mukherjee, M.D., whose book was the subject of a Ken Burns documentary.

Register today with the VIP Upgrade and enjoy more “up close and personal” experiences, including express conference check-in, preferred seating, a private cocktail hour meet-and-greet with Dr. Mukherjee, a small group interactive breakout session with Gladwell and more.
