Medical Society Installs New officers with Dr. Eric Hansen at the Helm



The San Bernardino County Medical Society (SBCMS) held its 125th Officers’ Installation and Recognition Dinner, welcoming Eric R. Hansen, M.D. as President for 2017-18, on Friday, June 23 at the Mission Inn in Riverside, California. Close to 200 guests gathered for a reception followed by sit-down dinner and program.

A family practice physician in Hesperia, California, Dr. Hansen also serves as the Chair of the Solo and Small Group Practice Forum for the statewide California Medical Association (CMA), the umbrella organization for SBCMS. He and his practice were also awarded “Best of the Desert” in the General Practice Physician category for several consecutive years. (See full background on Dr. Hansen, below). 

Dr. Hansen said, “I am so very honored to lead this society, which is the ultimate representation of the best of organized medicine. When our physicians work together to impact advocacy and policy, the whole is greater than the sum of its parts, to quote Aristotle. Our mutual goal is to make our healthcare system as strong and resilient as possible to ensure a healthy and productive region. I am excited to take our medical society forward and enhance the quality of life for all of our citizens.”  

Ted Mazer, M.D., President-Elect of the California Medical Association (CMA) and a board-certified otolaryngologist working in a solo practice in San Diego, officiated over the swearing in of the officers. Dr. Mazer has been part of organized medicine for the past 29 years through the San Diego County Medical Society, and, up until last year served as the CMA’s Speaker of the House of Delegates. 

The following officers were installed:

  • Damodara Rajasekhar, M.D. as President-Elect – Pediatrician, Apple Valley, CA.
  • Mark Bai, M.D. as Vice-President – Family Medicine, Southern California Permanente Medical Group,  Fontana/Ontario, CA.
  • Christopher Tsai, M.D. as Secretary – Urologist, San Antonio Urology Medical Group, Upland, CA. 
  • Kristina Roloff, D.O. as Treasurer – Ob-Gyn, Arrowhead Regional Medical Center, Colton, CA.
  • Michael A. Sequeira, M.D. as Immediate Past-President – Emergency Room Physician, Redlands Community Hospital, Redlands, CA. and Regional Director for CEP America

Five individuals were recognized with the presentation of the Outstanding Physician and/or Citizen Awards:

  • Nicholas P. Krikes, M.D. Outstanding Contribution to the Medical Society Award

    Dennis Hwang, M.D., Kaiser Permanente Fontana Medical Center

  • Outstanding Citizen Award
    Matt Gomez, UCR medical student, founder San Bernardino Free Medical Clinic 

The annual Bangasser Medical Student Scholarship was also presented to medical student Elena L. Chan, Loma Linda University School of Medicine, Class of 2018.

ABOUT SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY MEDICAL SOCIETY (SBCMS)
Established in 1878, SBCMS is the seventh largest medical society in California and the county arm of the California Medical Association (CMA). SBCMS’ mission is to promote the science and art of medicine, the care and well-being of patients, the protection of the public health and to promote the betterment of the medical profession. SBCMS is a non-profit, 501 (c) (6) organization.

SBCMS and CMA combine to form the strongest physician membership organization in the state for medical doctors (M.D.s), doctors of osteopathy (D.O.s), resident and medical students. ERIC R. HANSEN, D.O. – SBCMS President
Dr. Hansen has become a respected torchbearer and spokesperson when it comes to protecting and advancing the culture and viability of solo and small group medical practices. He is a successful Family Medicine physician practicing in Hesperia, California, where he has been established since 2002. He is a board certified (ABFM) primary care physician and graduated from the Western University of Health Sciences (WUHS), College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific in 1999. He was recently awarded the accreditation of Fellow of the American Academy of Family Practice (FAAFP). Dr Hansen also serves as a clinical rotation faculty member for instruction of medical students for Western University of Allied Health, College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Dr.  Hansen completed his Family Medicine residency training in 2002 after serving as chief resident of his program at West Jersey Voorhees family medicine residency in South New Jersey.  He holds numerous leadership positions within CMA and SBCMS. In addition to his incoming role as SBCMS President, Dr. Hansen serves as the chair of the Solo Small Group Practice Forum of CMA, representing all of the solo practice physicians of California within the CMA and the legislature, and he is a member of the CMA’s Health Care Advisory TAC (Technical Advisory Committee). He and his practice were also awarded “Best of the Desert” in the General Practice Physician category for several consecutive years.

Dr. Hansen believes in integrating the patient’s self-healing abilities into his approach to overall health and is focused on treating the entire patient as opposed to just the symptoms. Dr. Hansen is exclusively affiliated with Choice Medical Group and Choice Physicians Network.
