LOCAL MEDICAL SOCIETY TO ELECT NEW PRESIDENT, PRESENT OUTSTANDING PHYSICIAN & CITIZEN AWARDS ON JUNE 26, 2003

Samuel G. Wilson, M.D. of Apple Valley will become the 111th president of the San Bernardino County Medical Society on June 26 at an installation ceremony at Shandin Hills Golf Club in San Bernardino. He will enter the top leadership position of the 1,800-member physician association, replacing outgoing president J. Frank Randolph, M.D., a family practice and geriatrics specialist in Colton and Redlands.

Since 1993 Dr. Wilson has served as the Medical Director at Barstow Community Hospital and as an Assistant Clinical Professor at Loma Linda University Medical Center's Department of Emergency Medicine. He is a Diplomat of the American Board of Emergency Medicine and a member of the American College of Emergency Physicians.

Dr. Wilson has been active in the San Bernardino County Medical Society since 1993, serving on the medical society board and executive committee. He has served on numerous committees, but is particularly recognized for his work on the African American Health Initiative where he serves as Director. He is also actively involved in the Electronic Communication's Committee and Legislative/LOPAC Committee.

CMA President Dr. Ronald Bangasser will install four other local physicians as SBCMS officers the same evening. They are President-Elect Edward A. Hess, M.D., an internal medicine endocrinology specialist with Kaiser Permanente Fontana; Vice President Dennis P. Flynn, M.D., a family practice specialist and Medical Director of Epic Management, L.P., Redlands; Secretary Manmohan Nayyar, M.D., an Apple Valley neurologist and Treasurer Ruchir Sehra, M.D. a pediatric cardiology/electrophysiologist in Loma Linda. The physicians will take their new San Bernardino County Medical Society offices on July 1 for a one-year term.

The Medical Society will also recognize eight physician members who retired during the year.

Three local physicians and two citizens will be honored for outstanding contribution to the community, to medicine, and to the Medical Society. The awards are significant honors that reflect respect, recognition, and appreciation.

  • Kenneth C. Lane, M.D. The Nicholas P. Krikes, M.D. Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Medical Society. The award is given for continued interest and participation in one or more activities, over and above what is expected of a member. Dr. Lane was honored for his many years of dedicated service, support, and participation.
  • John W. Mace, M.D. The William L. Cover, M.D. Award for Outstanding Contribution to Medicine. The award is presented to a member who has displayed forward-looking, enterprise, pioneering ideas and prolonged professional stature and abilities.
  • Ernest C. Levister, M.D. The Outstanding Contribution to the Community Award for dedicated service to his patients, medicine and the community.
  • Fred Flotho and Temetry Lindsey, Ph.D. The 2003 Outstanding Citizen Awards for their sustained interest and participation in medically related activities that have benefited the members of the community.

On behalf of the California Medical Association Alliance, the San Bernardino County Medical Society Alliance, and the American Medical Association Foundation, Drs. Wilson and Randolph will present a check in the amount of $2,485.00 to Dr. Roger Hadley, Dean, Loma Linda University School of Medicine, to support medical student education.

The San Bernardino County Medical Society, founded in 1878, is a professional membership organization comprised of physicians practicing medicine in San Bernardino County. It is a private, non-profit corporation. Its purpose is to promote and develop the art and the science of medicine, to conserve and protect the public health and to promote the betterment of the medical profession.
