2004 Outstanding Citizen Award

presented to

Thomas Plott

This seventeenth-day of June, in the year two thousand four

Thomas Plott was very well known and respected in the Inland Empire. He was the guiding force behind the growth and development of the Plott Family Health Services. As owner, operator and administrator of several skilled nursing facilities and an Alzheimer's unit, Tom provided care to thousands of elderly and chronically ill. To these tasks he brought leadership, pragmatism, financial support, and humanism. Tom believed that his role in life was to care for those who were sick and unable to care for themselves. On many occasions, he provided services without regard for compensation.

Mr. Plott was very devoted to his employees and supported their growth and development in the healthcare industry. He believed that all persons, in their own way, had a contribution to give to humanity. He wanted the best for all, and he knew that his employees would make a difference.

Mr. Plott's concern for the health and well being of our elderly citizens is evidenced by his generous support of the teaching of Geriatric Medicine at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center through grants and his participation as an advisor to long term care educational efforts, including the Teaching Nursing Home Program. He also supported regional efforts in Geriatric Medicine education through the support of an endowed chair in Geriatric Medicine at the UCLA School of Gerontology. Tom believed in the pursuit of higher education and wanted to ensure that future leaders coming to UCLA would have the opportunity of learning about the care of the elderly. He also supported health care in our area through his participation in both St. Bernardine Medical Center and Arrowhead Regional Medical Center Foundations.

In today's delivery of health care to the elderly, there could never be another person like Tom, who, from his vast experience, knew the importance of these services. If there was a need, he simply provided. Over the years, Tom contributed monetarily to many organizations that in his eyes were providing services to those in need. Some of these organizations include the Highland Senior Center, Perris Hill Senior Center, St. Bernardine Medical Center, Arrowhead Regional Medical Center, Alzheimer's Association, and the California Association of Healthcare Facilities. Politically, he supported those initiatives and people that he felt would represent his industry well and without bias. He applied his wit and financial resources where the greatest number of people would benefit over the longest period of time.

In celebration of his many years of dedicated service to the citizens of our community, it is an honor to present this 2004 SBCMS Outstanding Citizen Award in memory of Mr. Thomas Plott.
