Deployment
Photo L-R: Paul Whiteside MD, Sally Monken MD, and Jennifer Spellman RN | Search for Lost HikerSan Bernardino County Sheriff Medical Reserve Corp volunteers worked a deployment December 7-8, 2010 in the rugged terrain of Mt. Baldy assisting the San Bernardino County Search and Rescue as they searched for missing hiker Michelle Yu. The MRC sent a team each day to be available if medical aid was needed, mainly for the search team but also for the hiker, if found. On December 8, Search and Rescue helicopter retrieved a body at the 7,900 elevation and it appeared that she had fallen to her death. The body was later identified by the Los Angeles County coroner's office as the missing hiker.

![]() | Fire Crisis - October 2007San Bernardino County Sheriff Medical Reserve Corps were deployed to the Evacuation Center at the National Orange Show Fairgrounds in San Bernardino and rendered care to over 1000 people at the evacuee shelter. "This experience was phenomenal to me as a volunteer, and it easily justified the time I spent preparing as a volunteer. My experiences working with the other volunteers and the many emergency response workers who serve our community have been extremely rewarding" said MRC Executive Committee member Dr. Frank Randolph. The San Bernardino County Sheriff Medical Reserve Corps hopes others will see this opportunity for caring as a reason to join the MRC and help us to do the same in any future emergencies. The sense of purpose and satisfaction of serving your fellow community members in need is unforgettable. Those wishing to volunteer can contact the MRC offices at 951-787-7700. |
Training
![]() | DRASHis the acronym for Deployable Rapid Assembly Shelters. The shelters are a quick-erect, soft-walled shelter, each of which is fully self-contained, portable, rugged, reliable, and user-friendly. When a disaster strikes, the DRASH shelters can be utilized for a number of different possibilities including use as a free-standing clinic, field-hospital, shelter to house evacuees, or as a command post in the field. The volunteers set up two shelters, took them back down again, and collapsed them to fit into their storage bags.
