In early March SBCMS President Rodney Borger, MD; President-Elect Rick Murray, MD; medical student leaders Laura Gephart and Ryan Eggers, and SBCMS/CMA Past President Dev GnanaDev, M.D. met with members of Congress or their staff including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Senators Barbara Boxer and Dianne Feinstein, Congressmen Henry Waxman, Joe Baca, Jerry Lewis, Pete Stark, Jackie Speier, and Nancy DeParle, Director of the White House Office of Health Reform.

PECOS Enrollment Policy Delayed Until January 1, 2011

Medicare physicians who have not updated their enrollment information in the past five years may need to fill out another application or face payment problems for ordered or referred services. The new rules authorize Medicare to reject claims if an ordering or referring physician is not identified in Medicare's PECOS enrollment system.

CMA is developing a step-by-step guide to walk physicians through the process, from determining if they are already in PECOS, to accessing the internet-based PECOS enrollment system. This guide will be finalized in the next few days.
