San
Bernardino County Medical Society
2002 Outstanding Citizen Award
presented in memory of
Hannah “Honey” Jordan
This twenty sixth-day of June, in the year two thousand two
Hannah Jordan, known affectionately by all as Honey, was a
woman well known and liked in Riverside and San Bernardino.
She
was defined in many ways – as the wife of distinguished
physician Dr. Kenneth Jordan, the involved mother of three,
and a vital force in her own right behind many community
and charitable works.
Honey Jordan volunteered for so many activities that her friends
found it impossible to keep track. She was a devoted member
and leader of the San Bernardino County Medical Society Alliance,
having served as Recording Secretary in 1994/95 and President
from 1996 to 1998 and President-Elect in 2001. She was a volunteer
and fundraiser for the Heigh-Ho Day Care Center in San Bernardino.
She served as the administrator for the Alliance’s Maxine
McAllister Scholarship Fund (formerly the Health Careers Loan
Fund). Honey particularly enjoyed going to the elementary schools
to present awards to children participating in the “Healthy
Lifestyles” contest sponsored by the Medical Society
and Alliance. Blessed with a keen intellect and love of learning,
she was eager to visit the nursing programs in our county and
personally award the scholarships to outstanding nursing students.
Honey was well known and highly regarded in the CMA Alliance.
She served as District Counselor in 1998/99 and Trustee in
1999 and 2001. She also worked on the leadership and financial
development committees. Honey’s spirit, style and commitment
to the Alliance mission will long be remembered and appreciated.
In addition to her work with the Medical Society and CMA Alliance,
Honey Jordan was very active in the Riverside Temple BethEl.
As a member of Riverside’s century-old Junior League,
she planned a gala fundraiser in 1991 that members still recall
vividly. Among her many other efforts, she lent support to
the Riverside Art Museum, her parent-teacher organization,
her temple’s nursery committee and a local thrift shop.
She was also a member of the San Bernardino Assistance League.
Family life was very important to this loved and loving mother
of three, and the lives of her three children were as important
as her own. She also worked part time in her husband’s
office, which allowed her to be near him, and friends depict
the couple’s relationship as an old-time love story.
In celebration of her many years of dedicated service to the
citizens of our community, our Alliance, and our Medical Society,
it is an honor to present this 2002 SBCMS Outstanding Citizen
Award in memory of our beloved Honey Jordan who dedicated her
life to giving.
