CMA On-Call: Reporting Requirements, Elder and Dependent Abuse, Pain Management
CMA's information on-demand service, CMA ON-CALL, is a very valuable benefit of your SBCMS/CMA membership. The documents are prepared and updated regularly by CMA's legal department. To request an index or document by fax, call (800) 592-4CMA or online at 222.cmanet.org.

There is currently a heightened liability risk in the areas of elder abuse and pain management. CMA has addressed this issue in a recent memorandum on Elder Abuse. For a copy, call SBCMS at (909) 825-6526. Also, make sure that you know the latest laws on intractable pain management and the Patient Self-Determination Act. ON-CALL documents #0513 and #1412 address these subjects.

To protect the public from the spread of infections, contagious and communicable diseases, physicians are required by law to report such diseases to the local health officer. Order CMA ON-CALL document #1506, which addresses reporting requirements. For more information on the requirements applicable to non-communicable diseases, documents #1501, "Cancer Cases: Reporting Requirements;" #1527, "Neonatal and Pediatric Diseases"; #1525 "Epilepsy/Lapses of Consciousness"; and #1528, "Occupational Illness and Injury" are available.
