2004Dr. Levister Honored for Leadership The
California Medical Foundation, on March 13th in Sacramento, honored SBCMS member
Dr. Ernest C. Levister Jr. for three decades of community leadership and involvement.
Dr. Levister, a San Bernardino physician who practices internal medicine and cardiology,
led efforts to open UC Riverside's biomedical program to more disadvantaged students.
He received the Foundation's R.D. Sparks Leadership Achievement Award. The award
recognizes extensive contributions to public health and underserved patients,
as well as the importance of encouraging young people from disadvantaged neighborhoods
to enter health professions. The San Bernardino County Medical Society and
the James Wesley Vines, Jr., M.D., Medical Society co-hosted a reception in honor
of Dr. Levister, which was held in the Medical Society's Conference Room on March
18. Dr. Smith Captures Writing Contest Prize Retired
SBCMS member Edward L. Smith of Walnut Creek, captured Second Place in the Second
Annual Southern California Physician Writing Contest. His entry appeared in the
April issue. He was awarded a beautiful gourmet gift basket, as well as
a certificate of excellence. Dr. Smith recently celebrated his 91st birthday! |
