Conference on physician health comes to San Francisco in October

Physicians’ professional wellness is increasingly recognized as being critically important to the delivery of high-quality health care. Physicians strive to achieve an optimal patient experience and provide the highest quality care, while simultaneously facing increasing productivity and documentation demands that often lead to anxiety, fatigue, burnout and depression.

To address this issue, Stanford Medicine, the Mayo Clinic and the American Medical Association (AMA) are collaborating to host the American Conference on Physician Health: Creating an Organizational Foundation to Achieve Joy in Medicine. The conference will take place at the Palace Hotel in San Francisco on October 12-13, 2017.

The conference aims to evaluate and improve professional fulfillment in physicians via a culture of wellness, personal resilience and efficiency of practice. Renowned speakers, poster sessions and panel discussions will provide innovative and practical strategies to promote physician wellness. Through these events, physicians can earn up to 11.50 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ toward their continuing medical education requirement.

While registration fees are discounted for AMA members, nonmembers are welcome to attend, and can receive an early-bird rate for registering before August 31. Medical students, residents and fellows are also strongly encouraged to attend.

3rd Annual Clinical Management and Behavioral Interventions for Diabetes Care, Oct. 20-21 in La Jolla

Scripps Memorial Hospital is hosting the 3rd Annual Clinical Management and Behavior Interventions for Diabetes Care symposium in La Jolla, October 20-21,2017. An estimated 29.1 million people in the United States have diabetes, a majority of them having type 2 diabetes. This symposium will discuss how emerging therapeutic approaches and new nutritional and behavioral programs can assist in reaching national targets. All physicians are welcome to attend and should expect to leave with the knowledge and skills to incorporate more effective ways to treat type 2 diabetes into their practice.

Digital medicine conference comes to La Jolla in October

Consumers are increasingly able to monitor their health using a vast array of wearable devices and digital technologies, at a small fraction of the cost imposed by our modern health care system. This change, powered by mobile internet, is giving patients unprecedented control over their health care.

The principal goal of this conference is to jumpstart efforts to drive the widespread incorporation of evidence-based mobile health solutions for more personalized, individual-centric care to improve outcomes, advance satisfaction and decrease costs. The meeting offers a forum to present, discuss and debate clinical trial evidence and how to best obtain it in order to accelerate change.

The general registration fee for DIGIMED17 is $450 when registering online and $475 on-site. Medical students, residents and fellows are strongly encouraged to attend, and can register for only $75.

IMQ's Stepping Up to Leadership early-bird pricing ends Feb.

Early-bird pricing for the Institute for Medical Quality (IMQ) Stepping Up to Leadership conference ends February 9. The program, offered in conjunction with the University of California at San Diego PACE Program, is a practical hands-on training for medical staff leaders.

The 2016 Stepping Up to Leadership program, widely recognized as the “go to” course for acquiring knowledge and skills to successfully lead a medical staff, will take place March 10-11 in San Diego.

The conference offers unique hands-on and interactive learning opportunities, as well as excellent faculty and course work on effective staff leadership, communication, problem-solving, handling disruptive or impaired professionals, effective meeting management, and improving outcomes for patients and staff.

Thanks to a generous grant from the Physicians Foundation, this course is offered at prices significantly lower than other courses of this caliber.

New this year is a session on how to develop a policy for aging physicians on your medical staff. Lorne Label, M.D., a frequent faculty member of IMQ's educational programs, will offer insight and his experiences in developing and implementing policies for the aging physician. His presentation will include case examples as well as sample policies that he has implemented in his hospital.

The course also will teach collaboration and team building between the hospital and medical staff, how to minimize stress and avoid burnout, and a legal update on current issues of importance to California physicians. This program is a great opportunity for individuals new to leadership positions to network with colleagues and enhance the practical skills you need to succeed.
